New music guide The Neu Bulletin (4th February 2015)

DIY’s daily new music tips, featuring Fake Laugh and Noble Oak.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to.Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Happyness, Nai Harvest, Fake Laugh

London, Birthdays

Tonight ranks as the best gig selection 2015’s offered up so far. Viet Cong play a hugely-anticipated show at London Oslo, ghostly pop specialists Liu Bei play a free night at the capitals’ Shacklewell Arms and Cash & David take to a showcase night at Notting Hill Arts Club. All that, plus Soak headlines ICA and Lion Babe visit Studio Spaces. It’s a ridiculous night for London-based gigs.

Pick of the bunch is this triple-bill at Birthdays. Happyness have just inked a deal with Moshi Moshi following their ‘Weird Little Birthday’ debut. They’re joined by thrashing heavyweights Nai Harvest and the bedroom-pop charms of Fake Laugh.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Noble Oak - Begin To Say

Patrick Fiore’s the kind of guy who’ll probably keep on drifting down his own path, regardless of chance happenings, hardships, natural disasters - anything. New song ‘Begin To Say’ is a pensive take on his heady electronics, which share similarities to someone like Tycho, all eyes on expanding with every move. Noble Oak’s clearly taking the right course.
