Seapony, Skinny Dream, Issy Wood - London, Old Blue Last
In the first of our Neu x Old Blue Last Presents shows, gloriously titled ‘How June Is Now’, we’re starting off by ‘Hangin’ Out’ with Seapony. One of the brightest new prospects in Skinny Dream supports, the personal, ever-experimental songwriting of Issy Wood also joining the bill. You’ll have Neu DJs in between bands. And bloody hell guys it’s free. RSVP here.
THE SONG
Night Flowers - Single Beds
Night Flowers’ ‘Single Beds’ is the sound of London adolescents fighting back. Landing with a hook that rivals many current C86 revivalists, ‘Single Beds’ is far too bright and bookish for musical nostalgia or melancholy; rather, it’s is an indication of recapturing and reclaiming a movement they rightfully think as their own. [Sean Stanley]
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Heavy Deeds - Light Lunch
Light Lunch by Heavy Deeds
Minneapolis’ Heavy Deeds are a five-piece consisting of brothers Alex and Chris Rose, Chris Bierden, Molly Harrington and Sara Bischoff. There’s a distinct sense of communion to their recordings. Songs on their new ‘Light Lunch’ EP put heavy emphasis on the first word in the title. These tracks aren’t overbearing, in fact they make strenuous effort to be the exact opposite. Soft on the senses like Belle and Sebastian and soft on the conscience like Twin Sister, there’s something quite remarkable about the title-track, up above.
