“It’s not you, it’s me; I just don’t have the energy,” sings Phoebe Green innocently on her latest new track ‘Golden Girl’, picking up almost exactly where her previous offering ‘Reinvent’ left off. Oozing with an insatiable sense of style and confidence, this new track sees the Chess Club-signed Mancunian continuing to carve out her own self-assured niche. A set of stripped back verses come backed by a heady chorus which gives the whole thing even more of a shimmering oomph, proving she might just be our golden girl after all. (Sarah Jamieson)

Making use of a *cough* similar rhythm to Marilyn Manson’s ‘Beautiful People’, and, in turn Billie Eilish’s ‘Bury a Friend’, the debut single from London-based duo XVOTO makes like a dark-side 100 gecs with a similarly collage-based nature to their sound - just with a touch more R&B in place of copious E-numbers. Hailing from Australia, Melbourne trio HighSchool have shared new track ‘New York, Paris and London’. An effortlessly cool intoxicating blend of jangly-pop and post-punk punch, their latest sounds almost Smiths-like in its darkness, but with an injection of euphoria and sun-drenched melodies bringing in the light. A unique and refreshing new sound, we predict they’ll soon be top of the class. (Elly Watson)

The song may have been written in the months following Molly’s leaving high school, but if there’s not something in “going out just to pass the time” that doesn’t hit about Summer 2020, we’ll be damned. It’s “about everyone enjoying being lost together,” the singer says - and it’s every bit as deliciously angst-fuelled as that suggests - with, crucially a beast of a chorus. What’s more, the track - which features on her newly-released EP ‘Porcupine’ was produced by Dom formerly of forever DIY faves, Superfood. (Emma Swann)

Opening up about addiction is never exactly an easy task, but it’s within ME REX’s new track that Myles McCabe finds himself tackling the subject head on. “It wants for you to feel alone when you are not alone,” he offers up on the arresting indie rock ‘Rites’, digging into the cycle of anxiety we all know too well. An emotive yet still playful track, it’s Myles’ lyricism which shines brilliantly here, making for both a potent and cathartic listen all round. (Sarah Jamieson)

“A sleazy observation of greed and hyper-capitalism with a German bridge which describes cash as the science of the entire world,” Children of the State have shared their snarling new single ‘Hot Money’. Finding the band at their heaviest, the track is a deliciously dark sizzler, setting the tone for their excellently-named forthcoming EP ‘Tragic Carpet and The Magical Wasp Gang From Notre Dame’. A two-and-a-half-minute stomper, it’s gritty and glorious, and an exciting preview of what their EP will hold. (Elly Watson)
