In the magazine May 2022

Featuring Jamie T, Sunflower Bean, Bloc Party, Warpaint and loads more.

While he might be considered one of music’s more unassuming characters, there’s no denying that Jamie T has played a pivotal role in helping to forge the modern UK indie scene. Ever since earworming his way into our collective consciousness with the still-iconic ‘Sheila’ back in 2006, he’s continued to offer up his vivid vignettes of life for over fifteen years. Now, just a few days on from revealing that his new record ‘The Theory Of Whatever’ will be released this summer, we’re thrilled to invite him to the cover of DIY to give us a first taste of what’s to come.

And that’s certainly not all - it’s another absolutely packed issue this month, with loads of DIY favourites gracing the pages. We get to grips with the powerful third album from New York trio Sunflower Bean, discover the softer rhythms that helped define Warpaint’s first album in over half a decade, and dive into the darker underbelly of Bloc Party’s latest ‘Alpha Games’. Sharon Van Etten guides us through the upheaval that determined her newest album, and we reconvene with Porridge Radio, to talk about their incredible new record, ‘Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky’.

Elsewhere this month, we find out exactly what to expect from the next Sports Team album, and offer up a glimpse into last month’s inaugural DIY Alive fest.

Plus, there are Neu profiles with the brilliant Horsegirl, fanclubwallet, Wunderhorse and flowerovlove. Grab your copy via the shop below, or flick through Issuu above!
