In the magazine November 2019

Featuring The 1975, Fontaines DC, slowthai and our A - Z of 2019!

Ahhh, 2019! What a year it’s been for music! From the dizzying heights of Kylie at Glasto, to the small matter of Billie Eilish’s world domination, there’s been a hell of a lot go down over the past twelve months, which is why we’re getting a bit misty-eyed and celebrating it fully in our November issue.

And, we hear you ask, what band could front such an issue? Well, it’d have to be The 1975. Fresh from scoring themselves two BRITs back at the start of 2019 for their frankly mind-bending pop opus ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, 2019 has seen them inspiring and riling up people across the world. Whether it was by engaging in the fight against homophobia at their show in Dubai, or giving a tangible platform to climate activist Greta Thunberg, they’re a band who - like it or not - are trying to change the world. The question is, are you with them?

In our cover feature, we travel to Australia to meet them in the thick of their massive world tour, where we reflect on the madness that has been their last twelve months, before returning that bit closer to home to meet Matty in the band’s Oxfordshire studio, where we dig into their fourth album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’.

Elsewhere this issue, we visit man-of-the-moment slowthai on the road as he plays his biggest shows yet and catch up with the formidable force that is Fontaines DC, who we find reflecting on their year during a well-earned break Stateside. Not only that, but we run through an A - Z of all of 2019’s hits (and some misses!), which includes a bit of gossip from Royal Blood’s Mike Kerr and Matt Berry about the newest edition of Desert Sessions. How’s about that then?!

It’s not all looking back though: we sit down with former Maccabee frontman Orlando Weeks, ahead of his brand new musical foray, and talk to Ben Gregory of Blaenavon about their bittersweet, second album. Plus, in Neu, we meet Master Peace, Sorcha Richardson and Italia 90. And if that’s not enough to keep you going til December, we don’t know what is!
