Taking our jobs, buying domains

A record label might have just bought the UKIP.org domain

Beloved indie Alcopop! Records is prepared to face the wrath of Nigel Farage.

A record label might have just bought the UKIP.org domain

It’s like an episode of The Thick Of It where Malcolm Tucker ends up going to an indie night to save the face of his party. UKIP (The UK Independence Party) has experienced a website shutdown, leaving its domain ( ukip.org) open to purchase.

Now it appears that Jack Clothier (pictured, right) of beloved label Alcopop! Records has purchased the rights to own ukip.org. Earlier today he posted a receipt of the transaction confirming the purchase of £200.

The domain is still being listed by GoDaddy, suggesting that the purchase may be overridden by an outside party, or it might have been purchased by somebody else. A UKIP spokesperson told ITV News: “We have had a technical problem with the website overnight, it is being worked on currently and we will get it back up as soon as possible.”

However, if the purchase has gone through, if in a miracle of the internet Alcopop! now owns the rights to ukip.org, we asked Jack - who also looks after events for DIY - how he’d make best use of the purchase. He selected the following three options:

A) He’d “fill it full of unicorns.”

B) “Redirect it to a brilliant charity.”

C) “Start the United Kingdom Indie Parties party.”

Update: Alcopop! have since had their buying rights removed, with GoDaddy overriding the transaction and giving the URL back to UKIP. 2015 is over, go back to bed.
