Neu Pick
Adna succumbs to ‘Overthinking’ on her new single
Breezy and broken-hearted, the Swedish sensation’s new single is today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Adna.
Back home in Sweden, Adna’s enveloping folk sounds have enraptured thousands. As she approaches the release of her new album ‘Closure’, though, she’s not tempted to gaze outwards. New single ‘Overthinking’ is every bit as introspective as that title would suggest - a track that finds beauty in even the darkest corners of a personal crisis.
Cut from the same silken cloth as Daughter’s blossoming sound, it’s Adna’s vocal that sets ‘Overthinking’ apart. Where Elena Tonra finds strength in a diamond strong voice, projected from the rooftops, Adna instead basks in a husky, broken tone. “Many nights in my own head,” she whimpers, “wondering if you spend nearly as many in yours.” Introspective and fragile, it’s a modern-day take on heartbroken folk tales that’s as instantly relatable as it is devastating.
‘Closure’ is set for release in March 2017 - until then, let ‘Overthinking’ be a soft comfort blanket through the long, dark nights of winter.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
