alt-J’s Joe Newman shares epic video for JJerome87 single ‘Brush Me Like A Horse’
The clip for his debut solo single comes directed by alex takács.

Several weeks on from the release of his debut solo single, alt-J’s Joe Newman has shared the video for his epic JJerome87 track ‘Brush Me Like A Horse’.
Embodying the cinematic scope of the song itself, the accompanying clip comes directed by alex takács, who has previously worked with the likes of Leon Vynehall, The xx and Lorde, as well as alt-J themselves.
“‘Brush Me Like a Horse’ is an acid western about a man condemned to die in a cruel, humiliating public spectacle,” the director has said, of the clip. “Joe Newman came to me with the vivid image of a state execution via treadmill, and it immediately conjured this whole narrative world. In Joe’s songwriting, the images are layered and nested inside one another: a man is accused, the accused is a horse, the horse is a mouse in a field where cats roam. The track already contained multiple voices and characters; it cut so many strong silhouettes that my job was simply to fill them in.”
The track - which is out now via via Mushroom Music / Virgin Music Group - comes produced by Carlos De La Garza, and marks the first taste of Joe’s new musical chapter. Check out the video below.
