alt-J’s Joe Newman introduces solo project JJerome87 with ‘Brush Me Like A Horse’

Having initially teased a new solo project back in 2024, alt-J’s Joe Newman has now dropped his debut single under his new moniker, JJerome87.

Entitled ‘Brush Me Like A Horse’, the track - out now via Mushroom Music / Virgin Music Group - is a full-bodied, gorgeously melodic offering that draws on Motown, blues and gospel to tell the story of, erm, “a man slowly turning into a horse.”

Explaining more about the intriguing concept, Joe has said: “This metamorphosis has the world around him forgetting who he is as people begin to care for him more and more like a horse. This song was inspired partly by something I’d seen a friend go through. They didn’t turn into a horse, but their reputation went through a metamorphosis.”
