Apple respond to Spotify’s complaints over rejected iOS updates

Last week, Spotify hit out at Apple for reportedly rejecting its latest iOS app update, claiming they were trying to stifle any competition for Apple Music. Not one to take such accusations lying down, though, Apple have since responded.

In a letter penned by Apple general counsel Bruce Sewell to Spotify general counsel Horacio Gutierrez, the former claims Spotify are asking for exemptions to rules that apply to all developers.

We find it troubling that you are asking for exemptions to the rules we apply to all developers and are publicly resorting to rumors and half-truths about our service,” Sewell wrote in the letter, which can be read in full here. “Our guidelines apply equally to all app developers, whether they are game developers, e-book sellers, video-streaming services or digital music distributors; and regardless of whether or not they compete against Apple. We did not alter our behavior or our rules when we introduced our own music streaming service or when Spotify became a competitor.”

It’s a bit like your aunt and uncle bickering over Sunday dinner, isn’t it? Something tells us this isn’t over yet, mind. Pass the gravy?
