Arcade Fire’s Win Butler says the band are in their “prime”

Arcade Fire’s Win Butler has stated that he has no plans for retirement, while comparing his situation to James Murphy, who stopped LCD Soundsystem at the age of 34.

Butler, now 40, has just finished the band’s biggest ever world tour on the back of ‘Reflektor’, which included a headline slot at Glastonbury Festival.

Speaking to Melnick in the Afternoon - a Canadian sports show - he discussed the band’s future, stating that they’re currently in their “prime.”

“I never want to put out something that’s not great. This last tour we did is the best, it’s the best shows we’ve ever played, so I feel like we’re kind of right in our prime right now — so I’m not really thinking about retirement yet ’cause we’re kind of like firing on all cylinders at this point,” he said.

He compared the band’s goals to the likes of David Byrne, David Bowie and U2. “There’s not a lot of people who you can look to in rock ’n roll, who’ve been able to keep it going… That’s the goal,” he said.

Win was speaking ahead of his charity Pop Vs. Jock charity game in Montreal.

Arcade Fire’s brilliant debut album ‘Funeral’ turned 10 this week.
