Arthur Wimble channels X-Files flavoured heartache in 'It Breaks'

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Arthur Wimble.

Elusive Brisbane musician Arthur Wimble specialises in all things teary-eyed, with a talent for smooth-crooning music more loved-up than Shrek’s greatest romance; Donkey and Dragon. A mysterious fella, he’s also got a penchant for hiding behind glitchy, pixelated imagery.

Fronted by a blocky ashtray, his latest track ‘It Breaks’ deals in craving after all kinds of other vices. “Why won’t you know me now?” it asks again, and again, in swooping, heavy-treated vocals, stuck in a rut and chasing another chance. All the while, eery X-Files twinkles fleck the background like invading alien influence, and like Arthur Wimble’s previous outings ‘I Love My Love’ and ‘Hearts’, it’s straight-up pop banger

“‘It Breaks’ is about the exact moment of discovery that a relationship or a commitment is falling apart,” said Arthur Wimble, or the new track. “It’s a repetitive track, as it’s all we think about during that time,” he adds. “I wanted a track to capture strictly that and this is the result”

We’ve got the first spin of Arthur Wimble’s new track ‘It Breaks’ below as today’s Neu Pick. Listen right here.
