Banoffee previews debut EP with 'Got It'

Back when the all new diymag.com was especially shiny and fresh, we launched with a feature about Australia’s relative droves of exciting new talent. From arena-hogging giants to far younger beings, the general conclusion of ‘Australia: What’s In the Water?’ was that there’s plenty more to come, generations of artists waiting in the wings to continue down under’s big ascent.

First on the list is Banoffee aka Martha Brown, a project that specialises in the kind of pop music that’s almost - on the brink of being - too clever for its own good. Disjointed, odd from the outside, it’s playful and ready to be poked and prodded. But then there’s ‘Got It’, Brown’s latest track, which runs through the customary deceiving verses before landing on a chorus that’s as clear as day. Simple, effective, incapable of fucking about - it’s a proper Aussie-stamped triumph.

The track’s taken from a new EP (Banoffe’s debut), out August 2014 on Two Bright Lakes. Listen to ‘Got It’ below.
