Benjamin Booker is now streaming new album ‘Witness’
The politically-charged second record is set to drop officially next week.
Earlier in the week, Benjamin Booker shared a live video for
new single ‘Believe’, shot in Providence’s historic Columbus Theatre.
Just a few days later, he’s streaming his brand new album ‘Witness’.
Also including the singles ‘Right On You’ and the title track (featuring soul
legend Mavis Staples), it’s an explosion of punk, blues, gospel and soul. The
album is also set to be more politically-charged than his debut record, confronting
contemporary societal issues.
After announcing the album, Benjamin spoke at length about
racism in America, and how it eventually shaped ‘Witness’: “I fled to Mexico,
and for a time it worked. But, outside of Pata Negra, I began to feel heavy
again and realized that I might never again be able to feel that
weightlessness. I knew then that there was no escape and I would have to
confront the problem”.
Benjamin will be a special guest of Kings of Leon when the
Followills play BST Hyde Park on 7th July. He’s also set to play a headline
show at London’s Moth Club on 4th July.
