Big Ups preview new split with the scathing ‘Not Today’

There’s been a horde of thrashing, angry, frustrated punk bands crossing the Atlantic and making an impression in 2014, but Big Ups stand out. That might be down to their stage presence, frontman Joe Galarraga’s skinny frame unpredictably ducking and diving into the actual picture of insanity.

Or it might have something to do with space. Big Ups have a habit of permeating their gnarly expressions with ominous mini-silences. Each is eventually coated in raw, plugged-in noise, but they use these transition points to their advantage. Skill comes into it from the beginning, especially on new song ‘Not Today’.

Big Ups’ new split single with Washer features ‘Not Today’ and ‘Rash’. It follows on from the debut album ‘Eighteen Hours of Static’.
