Cairobi shift into focus with ‘Gristly Words’ single

Cairobi mimic the experience of waking up from a bad dream, feeling disoriented and putting all the pieces back together. The experimental psych five-piece have a knack for penning pop songs out of completely fragmented pieces. It’s more evident than ever on new single ‘Gristly Words’, which fizzes into life through a series of shellshocks.

Employing the kind of spacious but razor-sharp style Grizzly Bear wear with pride, they touch on psychedelic staples without ever stumbling into cliche. There’s a constant hum, an endless sense of business running through ‘Gristly Words’. Somehow, Cairobi keep cool instead of getting drowned in their own ideas.

‘Gristly Words’ is out 6th July via Week of Wonders, following on from the ‘Distant Fire’ EP.

We’re premiering the new track below. Catch Cairobi at this year’s Field Day - they play the Moth Club stage on Sunday 7th June.

Cairobi will play Field Day (6th-7th June), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
