Christopher Owens surprise-releases ‘Chrissybaby Forever’ album

Ex-Girls frontman has released a follow-up to ‘A New Testament’.

Ex-Girls member Christopher Owens has surprise-released a new solo album.

‘Chrissybaby Forever’ has been put out on Bandcamp out of the blue, just a week after Owens shared his ‘Selfish Feelings’ song. It follows on from last year’s ‘A New Testament’ and, in what’s being seen as a move back to the Girls days, it’s the first solo album he’s recorded with just one engineer - J. J. Wiesler.

Those Girls comparisons continue with opener ‘Another Loser Fuck Up’, a direct and heartfelt piece, backed by scuzzy, simple guitar lines. , he admits that he might have gone too big with the last album’s set-up. “I had a fantastic time, but the reality is that I didn’t sell out shows. I had a huge band, and just the organ alone was a beast to travel with. It had this huge Leslie speaker that weighs something like 300 pounds. It’s a giant cost — flying all those people around, the hotels. The reality was I lost money, and I lost money on the first album as well because I had a big band then, too… There was a bit of a reality check at the end of the year when touring was over. It could not continue in the same way; it wasn’t sustainable.” Listen to Christopher Owens’ new solo album below.
