Reading 2013: Chvrches: “Reading & Leeds Have An Enormous Significance”
Scottish trio prepare to play the Festival Republic stage tonight in Reading, 23rd August.

It might only be Chvrches’ first Reading Fest appearance tonight (23rd August), but already they’ve been given a high billing, second from top on the Festival Republic Stage, pre-Crystal Fighters.
While it’s rare for a group to be thrown so far into the deep end, just like that, and given the fact that Chvrches’ show is likely to be one of the most anticipated of the weekend, Reading & Leeds also represents a significant moment for the band.
Iain Cook recites, in an interview with DIY, ‘growing up, seeing… stuff like Nirvana’s performance at Reading, some really iconic performances by the likes of At The Drive-In over the years… Reading and Leeds have an enormous significance in my musical past and I can’t wait to play there.
‘I’ve no idea what to expect, actually, but that’s probably a good thing!’
Once the set’s over and done with, it’s likely Iain and co. will be flocking to meet fellow Scots Frightened Rabbit, who also play today on the NME/Radio 1 stage. ‘We’ve been chasing Frightened Rabbit round Europe for the last like, month or something,’ jokes Martin Doherty. ‘They’re good friends of mine, and it’s just occurred to me that we’re finally on the same day, so that could be a messy one.’
