Lauren Mayberry teams up with IDLES' Joe Talbot for new version of 'Vicious Creature' track 'Sorry, Etc, Etc'

Lauren Mayberry has joined forces with IDLES’ frontman Joe Talbot for a re-imagined version of ‘Sorry, Etc’ - not a combo we necessarily saw coming, but one that somehow really works.

Lifted from the CHRVCHES vocalist’s debut solo album ‘Vicious Creature’ - which DIY hailed as “a sonic origin story that’s been well worth the wait” - the original ‘Sorry, Etc’ was already a high-octane, punk-tinged number. Now, with the addition of crashing percussion and Joe’s biting vocals, it’s been elevated into an unapologetically angry riot of a track (aptly dubbed ‘Sorry, Etc, Etc’).

“If you know me, you know how much I love Idles, so it really is an honor to have reinterpreted this song with Joe,” the former DIY cover star has said, explaining how their collab came about. “We first connected during Covid when I did his Balley TV YouTube series, and have been quietly supportive of each other from the wings since.

“I messaged Joe last summer about working together and this is the song we decided on. We recorded his vocals in December at Brighton Electric when Idles had a night off on tour. I re-recorded my (screamier) vocals at home before Christmas with Sam Stewart, and was produced by my friend Paul Gallagher.”

For his part, Joe has simply stated: “An honour and a joy to work with Lauren finally. I love the album and I’m happy to be a part of it. Fuck the king, she’s the king x”.
