Corey Bowen streams new ‘Midnight Dolphins’ EP in full
Middlesborough bedroom artist is supporting Christopher Owens in the UK.
Up to now, Middlesborough bedroom artist Corey Bowen has kept things fairly low-key, with hype-baiting headline shows being kept to a limit. In turn, he’s been producing sedated, Mac DeMarco-nodding tracks at a prolific rate, the latest being a new cassette release, ‘Midnight Dolphins’.
Running alongside the new EP is Bowen’s biggest moment yet, a support slot for Christopher Owens for his UK tour. No pressure, but it’s going to be fascinating, seeing the oddities of his output so far fledging into a similarly bonkers live set.
On ‘Midnight Dolphins’, pretty much anything goes. Songs could have been extracted from different ‘80s TV gameshows, for all we know. ‘Love Is A Dirty Window III’ darts and dives between nostalgic staples, while the gorgeous ‘Let Him Be The One’ is a love song for lost souls, a ballad to break bedroom-lounging hearts. Each track comes from a different world, even though they’re made up of the same strange, squelchy synth parts, Bowen’s vocals glazing over like a gloomy hallucination.
The new EP is out today on indie label Sexx Tapes, and it’s streaming below on DIY.
Listen and purchase the cassette on Bandcamp.
