Crepes get wistful on ‘Four Years Time’

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Crepes.

Originally hailing from Ballarat, Melbourne-based band Crepes are gearing up to release their new album ‘Channel Four’. So far, the band have been steadily building up to the release with a string of singles with titles like ‘Sexyland’. Meanwhile, the record itself has a cover that gives a wink and a nod to The Beatles’ cover for ‘Please Please Me’.

They’re not afraid of being a bit cheeky and playful then, but their latest cut ‘Four Years Time’ presents the band in more of a reflective mode. Filled with nostalgic and vintage synth melodies, as well as shimmering beats and a chunky bassline. It takes its time to blossom, exploding into life with soaring electronics and introducing a guitar riff that’s perfectly pitched between funk-laden and psychedelic.

It may be a song about the transient nature of time itself, but ‘Fours Years Time’ will surely help ensure that Crepes will be sticking around for some time.
