David Bowie shares ‘Blackstar’ video
Track is taken from an album of the same name (‘★’).
David Bowie has revealed an ultra-ambitious, dramatic video for ‘Blackstar’, the lead single from his new album of the same name (stylised as ‘★’).
Bowie’s Johan Renck-directed video is intensely creepy. It builds from outer space simplicity into a crazed collection of religious references, dancing zombies, scarecrows coming back from the dead. Just a few dates late post-Halloween, one minute it shows Bowie in gospel chanting form, the next as a blindfolded attic-dweller. It’s very full-on.
The track runs close to ten minutes, journeying from rich balladry to creepy atmospherics to retro-fused rock. An epic in every form, then.
‘Blackstar’ consists of seven tracks, and it’s released on 8th January.
