David Bowie to share new songs in co-written stage show based on ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’

Material old and new will feature in ‘Lazarus’.

David Bowie has been confirmed as a co-writer for ‘Lazarus’, a production based on 1976’s ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’.

As reported by The New York Times, the theatre play will re-interpret Bowie’s Thomas Newton character, an alien exploring life on planet Earth. The production will feature new material from Bowie, as well as new version of old songs.

Enda Walsh writers the play, which is set to open later this year. Ivo van Hove directs. Artistic director of the New York Theater Workshop, James C. Nicola, said: “It’s going to be a play with characters and songs — I’m calling it music theater, but I don’t really know what it’s going to be like, I just have incredible trust in their creative vision. I’m really excited about it. These are three very different sensibilities to be colliding.”
