Just as summer kicked in and collective hearts lifted - even just a tiny amount - in stepped a devastatingly emotive band making complex pop songs, going by the provocative name of Cancer. Their first track ‘Same Color As Digital Photography’ dances between structures and odd, nagging thoughts that creep into the conscience.
The duo of Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild (When Saints Go Machine) and singer/guitarist Kristian Finne Kristensen (Chorus Grant) are following up their head-turning first track with ‘Body On The Bones’, a sleepier, more slinky number that mixes Rhye-esque soul with guitar patterns that dart in and out of the frame. There’s a playfulness to how Cancer go about things, and it belies a darkness that clearly sits tight in the background.
‘Body on the Bones’ is taken from the release ‘Ragazzi’, out 29th September.
On 25th September, Cancer makes their UK live debut at London Lexington.
