Neu Pick
Desert Sound Colony show the way with ‘Signals’
London newcomers bring a delicate dose of tropical pop.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Desert Sound Colony.
London trio Desert Sound Colony make tightly-wound, distinctly otherworldly pop; the kind you’d find nestling at the top of rainforests, sharing space with bird colonies and tropical creatures.
All echo-lined guitar lines and distant vocal loops, new song ‘Signals’ is a sharp sign of intent. It finds the group linking together fragmented parts into a more considered whole, finding gold in a sea of strange.
Songs on their new EP (out 13th May) came together in churches and bedrooms, any space that could further their open-ended pop. The end result is a sweet-hearted New Order, or early Friendly Fires minus the samba vibes.
