DIY Weekly, 25th November 2013 - Feat. Katy B, Lizzo, Torres & More

The ‘Little Red’ singer heads up a new, free edition of DIY Weekly. Also featuring Thumpers, Maximo Park & More.

Katy B

is back. South London’s most nightclub-obsessed star; the voice behind some of the decade’s most exciting pop tracks so far and the individual who’s set to make her mark on 2014 with second album ‘Little Red’.

DIY Weekly’s new coverstar is, once again, on a mission to stir things up. And even though she’s reined in the dancefloor force and despite the fact that she’s writing actual ballads, Katy B is still rooted to spiritual home Rinse FM, still intent on changing the face of pop.

She tells DIY about her new album and why it’s about ‘jealousy and passion and love and rage’ in this week’s cover story.

Also inside the free music weekly - available to read online and on iPad - hip-hop’s newest star in the making, Lizzo, talks about being inspired by everything from Tchaikovsky to Beyoncé, in turn leading up to her stunning debut album ‘Lizzobangers’.

One of 2013’s most underrated albums - Torres’ self-titled debut - gets a re-evaluation as the Nashville songwriter visits the UK for the first time. She explains why it’s sometimes better not to have extreme, overnight success.

News-wise, DIY’s got word from Maximo Park on just how they’ve managed to shake off the foundations of their sound with fifth album ‘Too Much Information’. Fresher faces Thumpers, meanwhile, give word their hugely-anticipated joyous pop debut ‘Galore’.

In Neu, DC duo Gems introduce their sparkly form of dream-pop in a DIY Interview. It’s a project that’s blossomed musically and romantically this year, and it’s set to define 2014 if things to according to plan. Meanwhile, Joel Ford and Leanna Macomber’s Ejecta provide an exclusive mix.

Temples, The Notwist and Rokyksopp feature in the week’s best tracks and albums from Bilie Joe & Norah and Shearwater get the DIY verdict.

It’s all yours, for exactly zero pence. Grab the issue on iTunes to download the iPad version, or simply read the whole thing on Issuu online, right now.
