DIY Weekly, 7th October 2013 - Feat. Panic! At The Disco & More

Sleigh Bells, Anna Calvi and Los Campesinos! also feature in DIY’s weekly edition.

Swiping fingers at the ready: the new DIY Weekly is out now, available on iPad and iPhone.

On this week’s cover is Panic! At the Disco’s Brendon Urie. From 2009 onwards he was tasked with the challenge of trying to keep the band going.

With the help of the only other remaining original member Spencer Smith, he was able to use album number four to convey exactly what he wanted. At the middle of it all: the aim to keep things exciting.

Speaking of exciting, things don’t come more all-thrills than Sleigh Bells. Their sonic assault of a sound has been refined. It’s more bubblegum but it’s no less relentless. They’re throwing more punches than ever in an interview with DIY.

Elsewhere, Anna Calvi required motels and complete isolation to come up with the follow-up to her Mercury Prize nominated debut. ‘One Breath’ is going to take some beating - Calvi’s new record gets the DIY verdict, and she talks about combining beauty with ugliness on the album itself.

Los Campesinos! have also offered en exclusive behind the scenes peek into their new video for ‘Avocado, Baby’. Gareth channels his inner Les Dennis and tells us what it was like to work with Submarine’s Craig Roberts.

Save Your Breath offer up a track-by-track guide to their new album, post DIY x Dr. Martens’ #STANDFORSOMETHING date. There’s also word from Young Guns, who pick up the tour baton and play Bristol’s Louisiana this weekend.

All that and a great deal more in the latest DIY Weekly. It’s out now, available on iTunes Newsstand

Downloadable on iPhone and iPad, single issues are priced at £1.49 - or you can take up one of several subscription offers. Weeklies over a month old are available for 69p each.
