Do Nothing greet Autumn with new track ‘Summer of Hate’

It’s their first new music since the release of their debut album last year.

Nottingham's Do Nothing return with new single 'Summer of Hate'

Nottingham quartet Do Nothing have followed up their 2023 debut album ‘Snake Sideways’ with the release of new single ‘Summer of Hate’ - a standalone track that marks the start of their next chapter.

Spotlighting frontman Chris Bailey’s distinctive vocals and surrealist lyricism, the band’s latest number finds them shifting focus from the overarching angst of their LP to a more upbeat thematic landscape (albeit one that ruminates on childhood bullies and crying over dinosaurs).

Recorded at Notts’ own JT Soar with Folly Group’s Louis Milburn, the track has been described by Chris as “a fun song for the summer, despite being released now when the lousy summer has long since passed”. Continuing, he explains: “We wanted to put it out now, because we liked it but weren’t sure where it belonged with the rest of the new material. It’s sort of about bullies, and rejection, and how growing up doesn’t necessarily mean that that stuff goes away. We tried to have fun with it and not be stressed - which was easy because we were at home and with friends in the sunshine.”

Watch this space for more to come from Do Nothing in 2025 - including a second album, no less - and in the meantime, you can check out the video for ‘Summer of Hate’ below.
