Elvis Depressedly preview new album with ‘Wastes of Time’

Striking, simple song is taken from the ‘New Alhambra’ album.

Mat Cothran doesn’t mess around with words. There’s no haphazard build-up or dithering about in ‘Wastes of Time’, one of the simplest songs he’s ever penned.

The track is taken from his seventh Elvis Depressedly album, ‘New Alhambra’, recorded alongside partner Delaney Mills. Out this May in the States and set for a June release in the UK, this is a record that brings shades of hope and optimism into the equation. Never one to root resolutely in the dumps, Cothran is still showcasing a new side on this record.

‘Wastes of Time’ ends on a simple, affecting note: “It’s a sad world we were raised in / You could hate it, but what’s the use? / If you try, I will try / When we fuck up, it’s alright / There’s always more to life, than all these wastes of time”. And if that’s not persuasion to keep going, nothing is.

Boston label Run For Cover Records is putting out the new release. Pre-order here.
