Empress Of Announces New EP, Shares ‘Hat Trick’ Track

Lorely Rodriguez ups her game with this new track on Double Denim/ Terrible Records.

Empress Of has today announced details of a new EP. ‘Systems’ gains release in the UK through Terrible Records (Solange) on 1st April.

All very nice, gaining support from two of the world’s most respected labels. But is lead track ‘Hat Trick’ a big enough deal to warrant such acclaim, the kind that’s benefited Lorely Rodriguez ever since her emergence back in 2012?

Just about. ‘Hat Trick’ steers itself into the inventive pop territory that’s already lumbered her St. Vincent comparisons across the board. Lorely weaves futuristic production through a truly delicious melody. In asking her subject to “tell me my future”, she surrounds her commands with a direct, forward-thinking style that’s almost unprecedented. Yeah, it’s bloody good. We never doubted you, Lorely.

Read the initial Neu write-up from December 2012, which spoke of Empress Of’s beginnings as a ‘mystery act’, to her fledging into one of the US’ more assured talents.
