The alt-pop favourite will be officially announcing a new album soon…

Empress Of finds resilience in ethereal new single 'Dream House'

Empress Of has shared a vulnerable new track entitled ‘Dream House’, inspired by the experience of losing her family home in last year’s devastating Californian fires.

A delicate yet dreamy song that honours the scale of that loss while also choosing to look ahead with optimism, it’s a teasing preview of what we might be able to expect from Empress Of’s as-yet-unannounced new album, the follow-up to 2024’s ‘For Your Consideration’.

“I wrote ‘Dream House’ in Norway on a fjord after my house had burned down,” she has shared, reflecting on the single’s conception. “My childhood best friend moved there and, in an attempt to find a home anywhere outside of LA, I flew there and spent a couple of weeks making music.”

Continuing, she explains that “it felt jarring and lonely, not exactly the comfort I was hoping for, but one afternoon I made a little voice memo while playing a piano mumbling the phrase ‘I wanna build a dream for you’. That’s when this whole thing kind of started. Like a little spark. Someone said a phoenix isn’t born, it’s remembered, and in making this I remembered why I make music.”

Stay tuned for more from Empress Of very soon… but in the meantime, listen to ‘Dream House’ here:
