Empress Of’s ‘Tristeza’ Gains Pional + El Guincho Remixes

Two Spanish-based producers remix a highlight on Empress Of’s ‘Systems’ EP.

Empress Of’s ‘Tristeza’ Gains Pional + El Guincho Remixes

Lorely Rodriguez aka Empress Of turned a few heads last month when she revealed a new song in her Spanish tongue, ‘Tristeza’. Half of her new ‘Systems’ EP - out now on Double Denim - is in English, the other half Spanish.

Even based on its original you can pick up on the song’s interesting twists and turns, all pointing to something progressive, malleable. In other words: Ridiculously remixable.

It probably didn’t take much to convince both Pional and El Guincho to give the song the remix treatment. MIguel Barros and Pablo Díaz-Reixa are Spanish-born musicians themselves. The former puts emphasis on Lorely’s soft, lurching vocals, while El Guincho goes down the percussion route, filling the empty spaces with rushed chatter and ever-shifting patterns.
