Everything Everything gear up for the 2018 Hyundai Mercury Prize: “We wanted to make a bit of a statement tonight”
The band will perform ‘A Fever Dream”s opening track ‘Night of the Long Knives’.
Tonight’s the night; the winner of the 2018 Hyundai Mercury Prize will be decided this evening. Ahead of the event, Manchester’s brilliant quartet Everything Everything are one of the first to grace the red carpet, but how’re they feeling about the whole thing? Feeling confident? Feeling good?
“We’re very good,” enthuses frontman Jonathan Higgs. But not so big on the confidence front? “No, we’re not confident! Well, we’re confident that we’re going to perform well.”
As for their track of choosing, it’s set to be a darker slice of fourth album ‘A Fever Dream’ that’s going to be aired live at London’s Hammersmith Apollo this eve. “It’s ‘Night of the Long Knives’,” he tells us. “It’s kind of a scary moment, and it’s the opener of the record. We thought we could something a bit more pop and a bit more relaxed, but we wanted to make a bit more of a statement tonight.”
Everything Everything have been shortlisted for the 2018 Hyundai Mercury Prize. For more information on this year’s Prize, head to mercuryprize.hyundai.co.uk.
