Airhorns up
Father John Misty and Ezra Koenig explain how they appeared on Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’
FJM says the airhorn was his idea, obviously.

A couple of days on from the gigantic surprise release of Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’, guest contributors Father John Misty and Ezra Koenig have explained how they appeared on the record.
Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra recalled how a tweet he posted in 2011 - referencing Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Maps’ song - resulted in the ‘Hold Up’ track. “songs become tweets, tweets become songs - it’s the way of the world,” he said. How poetic.
Father John Misty has a couple of anecdotes - one truthful, one less so. The latter says he “make ends meet taking the occasional session playing airhorn.” Sorry Diplo, the airhorn is Josh Tillman’s territory. Another tale says he simply woke up with “a slight metallic taste in my mouth and a Beyonce writing credit.”
See both guests’ anecdotes below. The album also features spots from Jack White, James Blake, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd. It’s a small-fare, subdued release, really.
