Father John Misty drops live set favourite ‘The Old Law’
The standalone single was previously dubbed ‘God’s Trash’.

Father John Misty has shared a new single entitled ‘The Old Law’ - a track which was first known as ‘God’s Trash’ when he began incorporating it into his live set back in Autumn 2024.
Produced by Drew Erickson and Josh Tillman (aka Father John himself) in LA’s Fivestar Studios, the song acts as a follow up to the idiosyncratic auteur’s last studio album ‘Mahashmashana’, which landed in November 2024 and was described by DIY as a record which “ploughs a relentlessly adventurous furrow while striking a compelling balance between the epic and the intimate”.
‘The Old Law’ arrives ahead of Father John Misty’s previously announced Spring 2026 US tour dates, which will see him headline venues including San Francisco’s historic Castro Theatre and Seattle’s Paramount Theatre (for two nights apiece) before crossing the pond for a run of UK/EU shows - including a turn at London’s LIDO Festival supporting CMAT - this summer.
