Father John Misty does a proper official album announcement for ‘Pure Comedy’
After sharing the title-track yesterday, he’s confirmed the new record comes out on 7th April.
Yesterday it became fairly apparent that Father John Misty is up to something. Late afternoon Josh Tillman put out a brand new, politically charged number called ‘Pure Comedy’. Then one intrepid Reddit user unearthed a cached merchandise page on fatherjohnmisty.store which appeared to reveals a new albums’ full artwork, title (‘Pure Comedy’) and release date (March 31st). Whoops-a-daisy!
Well, now it’s official, and despite the date on that sneaky merch site being a week out from the real one, there is indeed a new Father John Misty album, landing on 7th April via Sub Pop in the U.S, and Bella Union in Europe. It’s called ‘Pure Comedy’ and all.
Along with the solid confirmation, Father John Misty has shared a new 25 minute film, also called… you guessed it - ‘Pure Comedy: The Film’.
Directed by Tillman and Grant James, the viddy gives previews of what to expect on the new album, and features a bit of topless painting for good measure. Oooer.
The cover art for ‘Pure Comedy’ is by The New Yorker’s Ed Steed. The album also features musical contributions from Gavin Bryars, Nico Muhly and Thomas Bartlett.
