Everything has changed
Father John Misty trolled everyone with his Taylor Swift covers
Surprise, surprise, Lou Reed didn’t really pay him a dreamy visit.
Father John Misty has spoken in a new interview about those deleted Taylor Swift covers, and whether Lou Reed actually appeared to him in a dream at all. Surprise, surprise, he was having us on.
Just to recap the entire saga: following Ryan Adams’ ‘1989’ cover album last month, Father John Misty posted two Taylor Swift covers on his soundcloud, in the style of (deep breath) Ryan Adams covering Taylor Swift in the style of The Velvet Underground. Shortly after posting his own takes on ‘Welcome To New York’ and ‘Black Space,’ FJM deleted them again - because Lou Reed told him to in a dream. Right then.
Now, speaking to Louisville’s 91.9 radio station, Josh Tillman’s explained his true motivation - trolling. Shocked by the insane amounts of media coverage around the covers, Father John Misty decided to push his luck. “I went and gave them the most fraudulent, the most blatantly absurd, unprintable piece of surrealistic nonsense,” he said, “– and they printed it!”
Father John Misty also added that Taylor Swift’s ‘people’ got in touch with him after he deleted the covers, urging him to put them back online.
