Father John Misty unveils new track ‘Pure Comedy’
“Where did they find these goons they elected to rule them?”
Praise the musical gods for today Father John Misty has blessed us with new track ‘Pure Comedy’, complete with an America-baiting, Trump-hating send-up of a video.
The track, which was debuted live late last year and likely features on the singer’s forthcoming third record, finds Misty in typically acerbic form, delivering state of the nation musings in his own inimitably biting, theatrical style. Take this choice cut for proof: “Comedy, now that’s what I call pure comedy/ Just waiting till the part where they start to believe they’re at the centre of everything and some all powerful being will endow this horror show with meaning”. Ouch.
The video features a collage of topical clips interspersed with hand drawn, tongue-in-cheek images of panicking figures and imminent apocalypse. Remind you of anything?Notably, the line “Where did they find these goons they elected to rule them?” is backed by a video clip of Donald Trump. Nicely done, Father.
Misty still hasn’t technically revealed details of his next LP, however one user on Reddit cannily noted a cached merchandise page on fatherjohnmisty.store which reveals the albums’ full artwork, title (‘Pure Comedy’) and release date (March 31st). Whoops-a-daisy!
