The Flaming Lips have confirmed a theatrical version of their album ‘Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots’ is in production.
The band are working on the adaption of their 2002 record with director Des McAnuff, telling Blllboard.com they expect to start workshopping the production soon.
‘It’ll be a big chunk of Flaming Lips music, probably about 30 songs,’ frontman Wayne Coyne explained, with the show also including tracks from 1999’s classic ‘The Soft Bulletin’ and 2006’s ‘At War With The Mystics’.
‘It’s a big deal,’ he continued. ‘It’s hokey and wonderful and poignant and powerful. It’s really become a perfect combination of my fantastical robot-world vision and [McAnuff’s] little, internal, humanistic version of what that music is. I really believe it could work - and luckily I don’t have to do much!’
The Flaming Lips are set to play a number of UK gigs over the summer, including a live show at Jodrell Bank.
