Foo Fighters spill secrets during Howard Stern interview
Dave Grohl admitted to jamming with Prince and almost working with David Bowie during the 72 minute radio show.
After twenty years of being in a band, there’s no doubting that Foo Fighters have their fair share of secrets. Luckily for fans though, Dave Grohl is never one to deny them a good story or two and during the group’s recent visit to The Howard Stern Show, he decided to regal a few tales.
During the seventy-two minute radio show, the band performed two songs - ‘Learn To Fly’ and new single ‘Something From Nothing - while Stern interviewed Grohl about almost everything. From chatting about that time Paul McCarney popped around to visit his house, to admitting that he was once supposed to work with David Bowie but the project didn’t work out, all sorts of ground was covered.
As pointed out by Consequence of Sound, Grohl also revealed that he was once invited to jam with Prince back in 2011, but after a short session during his LA residency at the Los Angeles Forum, he never saw him again: “I waited for him to call all week, he never called, I didn’t know whether I was going to play drums or guitar, my song or his song… I walked into the empty arena at soundcheck… and Prince just appears … He picks up a bass and shreds the bass like I’ve never seen anyone play it … and then we started playing ‘Whole Lotta Love”. Then we end it, he said, ‘Yeah, that’s great,’ and I said, ‘Yeah that’s amazing,’ ‘We should do that!’ ‘We should totally do that!’ and he said, ‘What are you doing next week?’ and then I never saw him again.”
Drummer Taylor Hawkins also made an appearance to explain that he discouraged Grohl from re-recording the debut Foo Fighters album - which was originally just recorded by Grohl, on his own - after saying that it was one of his own favourite albums: “I do not want to piss on that Picasso!”
Oh, and apparently Grohl loves Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’. “Well, honestly, I’m not judgemental when it comes to music and I’m not a music snob!” he said in his defence, “I listen to stuff that I probably shouldn’t, but I do.”
