Neu Pick
Fox Chapel disorientate with the gripping ‘Dead Flowers’
The Northampton bunch gather disparate sounds under their dark shelter - their new single is today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Fox Chapel.
Northampton noise crew Fox Chapel are masters of gathering disparate sounds together. Scooping up noises that would sound scattered and lacking focus in lesser hands, on ‘Dead Flowers’ they tie everything up tight.
The track’s blown-out psychedelia pairs up perfectly with the half drawled, half spat-out vocals. A disorientating cut of sucker-punch post-punk, it’s a black-as-a-goth take on disillusionment that sits somewhere between Ought’s razor-wire punk and the gloomy clouds of Merchandise et al.
‘Dead Flowers’ is the flip side to ‘Ice Cream’, Fox Chapel’s incoming new single. That’s set for release next Friday 21st October, with the band taking to The Shacklewell Arms in London the following day for a single launch party - more details on that can be found here.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
