Genesis Owusu announced second album ‘STRUGGLER’
He has also shared the lead single ‘Leaving the Light’.
Genesis Owusu has officially announced the release of his second album. ‘STRUGGLER’ will be out on 18th August via Ourness/AWAL.
The news comes with a new song too, in the form of ‘Leaving the Light’, the video for which you can watch below.
Owusu took inspiration from Samuel Beckett’s ‘Waiting for Godot’ and Franz Kafka’s ‘Metamorphosis’ when writing the new album, as well as from a close friend who hit the brink but came through the other side.
Owusu himself has said: “The struggler runs through an absurd world with no ‘where’ or ‘why’ at hand. Just an instinctual inner rhythm, yelling at them to survive the pestilence and lighting bolts coming from above. A roach just keeps roaching”.
‘STRUGGLER’ follows up on Owusu’s debut album ‘Smiling With No Teeth’, which was released in 2021. The Ghanaian-Australian artist won multiple ARIA Awards for the album.
Owusu is also set to embark on an extensive world tour, which will include a headline show at London’s Heaven on 15th November.
Genesis Owusu plays Mad Cool (6th - 8th July), where DIY is a media partner. Head to the festival’s website for more info, and to buy tickets.
