North London four-piece Gengahr have announced their first single since inking a deal with Transgressive Records.

‘Powder’/’Bathed in Light’ is out 27th October and it’s streaming now. Co-produced by James Bragg in Devon, with Spring King’s Tarek Musa on mixing duties, it follows on from a string of “demos” on the band’s Soundcloud. Devilish in detail, it possesses the same sinister undertones that’s given Gengahr’s psych rock a genuine edge up to now.

Speaking to DIY about the new track, the band’s frontman Felix Bushe says it’s “definitely heavier than what people expect it to be.” The track was initially recorded earlier this year but “wasn’t spot on” - after getting a string of shows under their belts, they gave it another go. “Although it doesn’t sound too dissimilar to older stuff, it’s sort of a step in a different direction,” he says. “I’m sure we’ll keep people guessing with the next single we put out as well.”

A debut Gengahr album is tentatively due out in early 2015, says Felix. (“We’ll fit in what we can, and if we have to work every day of the week then we’ll do it. The album’s not far off now.”)
