Gently Tender return with news of ‘This Was Once Fields’ EP
New track ‘A Mound A Field’ is the London outfit’s first release since 2023.

After almost three years out of the spotlight, Gently Tender are back, having recently confirmed that they’ll be releasing a new EP entitled ‘This Was Once Fields’ on 22nd May via TODO Records.
The project will act as a follow-up to the South London six-piece’s 2022 debut album ‘Take Hold Of Your Promise!’, and is essentially their first new music since then; a standalone single, ‘Country Folk’, arrived in 2023, but otherwise Gently Tender have been busy navigating a series of significant life changes including births, illness, relocations and more.
The band have shared a new track, ‘A Mound A Field’, by way of re-introduction - a cut that frontman and former Palma Violet Sam Fryer has noted was “inspired by the beginning of a walk that I did two years ago”.
Continuing, he explains: “The song is capturing the moment when you’re walking the open fields and then are suddenly hit with the view of the vast open city, being aware of the changes in emotion, how it changes the way you breathe, and how it compels you to meditate on all life on Earth - how it has developed for all good and worse.”
Nothing too existential, then. You can find out details of Gently Tender’s upcoming show at London’s ICA here, and have a listen to their widescreen, awe-filled new number below.
