Girl Band: “I wanted it to sound as good as we could make it sound”

Band discuss their debut LP in the new issue of DIY.

In the new issue of DIY (out 22nd May), Girl Band discuss their debut album, and how they thought they had enough studio time to create a rock opera.

“I know this is really vague, but I wanted to capture the intensity of the live show,” says bassist Daniel Fox, who also headed up engineering duties on the record alongside two friends. “But not exactly what it’s like, you know? Mix-wise, it’s still a head trip. Purely from a recording perspective, I wanted to make it sound as good as we could make it sound.”

Those familiar with the singles will know that Girl Band have a habit of drip-feeding material to their fans, and guesses that the album was still a ways off wouldn’t have been unfounded. “It kind of just came to the stage where we had enough songs to do it, and we were all feeling good about it,” he says on the decision to head into the studio on Good Friday. “It was like, shit - actually, yeah, we’re totally ready for this. Let’s go in while we’ve got a good momentum going. It was actually really weird - it was the first time everyone was like ‘yeah, let’s do it!’”
