Girlpool’s debut album “shows a change of emotional taste”

While the duo’s EP became infamous for its brutal honesty, the pair can pinpoint the differences between it and their new full-length.

Girlpool's debut album "shows a change of emotional taste"

Next month, Los Angeles-bred, Philadelphia-based duo Girlpool will be unveiling their debut album but, as they reveal in the new issue of DIY, it’s set to showcase a new side of their relationship.

Having already made their mark with their debut self-titled EP back in November, Harmony Tividad and Cleo Tucker became quickly known for their brand of painfully personal and honest songwriting. Yet, while they admit that their full-length does explore some different lyrical territory, honesty is still their key.

“Harmony and I’s relationship is always changing and evolving,” Tucker offers up, “but the intention is always the same, which is to be present and honest with each other. We feel the album shows a change of emotional taste, representative of the growth Cleo and I have experienced emotionally before and during the writing of the album. I couldn’t pinpoint one reason for any change that comes about in our lyrics, it’s a combination of everything that’s happened to us inside and outside of this band.”

They’re not even really feeling the pressure all that much: “The only thing that matters is internal fulfilment,” concludes Tucker. “The catharsis is very real.”
