Grimes and Sia support fight-back against Donald Trump’s Immigration order

The musicians matched thousands of dollars in donations to civil rights activist groups.

Over the weekend, American president Donald Trump passed a discriminatory new Executive Order banning nationals from six predominantly Muslim countries from entering the U.S.A. He also halted the country’s intake of refugees. The ban has caused widespread anger worldwide, with protests happening across the world in response.

Grimes and Sia both took to Twitter after the Executive Order was announced; offering to match their fans’ donations to civil rights groups to the tune of many thousands of dollars. Grimes called on fans to give what they could to the CAIR foundation - the charity arm of the Council on American–Islamic Relations. She matched $10,000 worth of donations to the Muslim advocacy group.

Meanwhile, Sia announced that she would be matching donations up to $100,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The non-profit organisation fights to defend constitutional rights and freedoms, and has already filed a lawsuit against the Executive Order. This week alone, the ACLU received a staggering $24 million dollars in donations - to put that in perspective, that’s 6 times its yearly average.
