Grimes: ‘I’ve Just Started My Next Album’

Grimes may have only recently released ‘Visions’, but she claims to have already begun working on her next record.

In an interview with DIY, the rising star - real name Claire Boucher - spoke about her future project: ‘I’ve just started my next album,’ she admits. ‘But it’s hard to work when you’re on the road this much.’

Not one to sit back and relax, Grimes’ latest effort ‘Visions’ - recently released through 4AD - is her third album, following on from her 2010 efforts (yep, both of them) ‘Halfaxa’ and ‘Geidi Primes’.

So, with such a stream of productivity, what avenues can we expect to see the singer exploring next?

“I feel like being receptive to change is what I do but I don’t believe in reinventing,” Boucher begins. “I’m getting into bass music. I want to work hard with percussion and getting out of this 4/4 shit. I’m also working on super-forward and unaffected vocals. I want to make something extremely clean, sparse, scary, neo-industrial.’

‘I want it to still be feminine but in the way that ballet is feminine – because at the core of ballet’s femininity is an incredible hardness, dedication, intensity and simplicity.’

However, with her packed touring schedule, don’t expect progress on album number four to move too quickly: ‘I need solitude. I need to be in my room for a length of time without seeing anybody. Hopefully I can take some time off in the summer to start working.”
