Grimes returns with huge new track ‘Go

The Canadian’s album may not yet be finished, but that barely seems to matter.

It sounded massive when she debuted it live at this year’s Governor’s Ball, but now that Grimes has officially unveiled her brand new track ‘Go’, it’s evidently larger than life.

Fresh from revealing to her Twitter followers yesterday that a new song was on the horizon, Claire Boucher gave BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe the first play of what looks likely to be the first material from the follow-up to her 2012 album ‘Visions’.

Co-written alongside LA producer and regular collaborator Blood Diamonds, ‘Go’ shows a Grimes we’ve never seen before, and she knows it. “Its kinda different from regular grimes,” said Boucher in a tweet: she’s not wrong.

Apparently originally written for Rihanna - if Boucher’s own Twitter account is to be believed - it’s more ‘Harlem Shake’ than ‘Genesis’ with its slick beats and addictive samples.

The track is now available to download for free from her official website as a special summer gift to fans.

As for progress on her fourth full-length - which was originally anticipated for a September release - there’s a little news on that front too. “It’s our summer jam so we figured we should put it out,” she writes on 4AD’S website, “cuz I am very bored of waiting to finish my album b4 releasing new music haha.”

In the meantime, Grimes is also scheduled to make a handful of live appearances this year, including Toronto’s Time Festival on 19th July and Chicago’s Pitchfork Festival on 20th July.
