Grimes talks making ‘irl’ music and using guitars on new album
She also clarifies that ‘Go’ was 100% a one-off single.
Grimes has taken to Twitter to share a few more details for a new album progress report.
The follow-up to ‘Visions’ was anticipated for 2014, but in a previous interview with New York Times, Claire Boucher said she scrapped initial sessions for the record earlier this year. Since then, she’s been in the studio with Lizzo, but she’s offered few details on how the album’s developing.
In a series of Tweets, Grimes discussed how she’s making more ‘irl’ music, switching from using a computer to opting for other instruments. “guitar is just a whole new sonic world, melodically, rhythmically etc.” she stated. “Playing ‘irl’ music is my biggest inspiration really.”
She stated that she’d just finished “what could def b a third single for this album,” citing a “glam rock” style, alongside Queen and David Bowie.
Further clarifications were made about the ‘Go’ single, which came out earlier this year to a fairly mixed response. “We mostly put it out cuz its insanely fun to play live,” she says. “thats NOT to say that go isn’t on the album cuz of scandal etc - its only not on the album cuz i didn’t produce it and i produce my albums.”
Catch-up with the ‘Go’ single below, originally penned for Rihanna.
